GREATER MONTRÉAL BUILDERS AND THEIR DESIGN TEAMS CELEBRATE THE TALENT AND CREATIVITY OF THE WINNERS OF THE HABITAT DESIGN AWARDS

Montréal, June 21, 2018 – Yesterday, during a highly anticipated ceremony, the housing industry shone the spotlight on the winners of the 2018 Habitat Design Awards, which celebrates the talent and creativity of the artisans working in the housing sector.

These awards – some thirty were presented this year – aim at highlighting excellence achieved in the construction of new housing units in the Montréal metropolitan area with the integration of quality interior design achieved through a multidisciplinary approach. This translates into a decisive competitive edge with respect to the design of ergonomic, functional and aesthetic dwellings. It also facilitates the marketing of new housing projects to a public increasingly sensitive to an environment offering what designers call nowadays “well-being in all its dimensions.”

This spring, the Val-Mar Challenge in landscape architecture made its appearance among the awards granted to allow landscape architects to submit original and innovative proposals for pool and green spaces layout for the multifamily condo project 21e arrondissement by Prével in Old Montréal or the single-family homes project Les Maisons du Nouveau Saint-Laurent by Rodimax.

Once again this year, the Richelieu Awards enabled talented young designers to make their mark and be noticed by design firms. Candidates were given the task of submitting a design concept reflecting their vision of tomorrow’s housing while meeting the standards of universal design. To this end, the participants were inspired by the micro spaces proposed in DevMcGill condominium projects currently being marketed, namely: Ateliers Castelnau in the Mile-Ex and Noca Condominiums in Griffintown.

The prizes awarded by the jury or the professionals in the sector are complemented by one of the most coveted awards because the decision rests with the public who is invited to vote for the best decorated model unit. This part of the competition brought together 16 finalists this year. All voting participants were automatically eligible for a draw for a prize consisting of a set of GE appliances valued at $5,000.

Buyers are keen on the increasingly varied housing solutions presented to them. For builders who await their visit, this interest brings them to arrange elegantly decorated model units and eye-catching sales offices. Buyers can get their fill of ideas and start dreaming about their future new home. It was in this context that the Open House Weekends and the Habitat Design Awards competition were launched.

“We are pleased to have been able to contribute to this competition, by involving our members in the jury’s composition and by collaborating on the establishment of categories and selection criteria.” shared Johanne Denis, President of l’Association professionnelle des designers d’intérieur du Québec (APDIQ).

The Habitat Design Awards competition confirms that the housing industry is aiming at more than doing business with buyers. Housing builders are also inhabited by a passionate love of their craft. It is this passion that the Habitat Design Awards celebrate, in partnership with FORMES magazine, highlighting different talents, different facets of these developers: their creativity, sense of innovation, their design talents.

“The goal pursued with the creation of the Habitat Design Awards is to promote multidisciplinary approaches involving, early in a project, the different architecture and design professionals as well as key players in the residential construction industry so that, remarkable and thought-provoking achievements can stem from their collaboration” commented Claude Paquin, editor of FORMES magazine.

The sponsors of the Habitat Design Awards are l’Association professionnelle des designers d’intérieur du Québec (APDIQ), l’Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec (AAPQ), Cecobois, duProprio, GE Appliances, Richelieu, Val-Mar, SolutionCondo.com, Batimat, Guidehabitation.ca as well as FORMES magazine.
